Our commitment

Tablets of Sumer aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Ancient texts deserve a reading room that everyone can enter — that means a calm, high-contrast palette, keyboard-first navigation, semantic structure for screen readers, and predictable motion.

What works today

• Every interactive control is reachable with keyboard alone (Tab / Shift+Tab / Enter / Space / Arrow keys for segmented toggles).
• Color contrast meets AA for body text and interactive elements in both light and dark themes.
• All images carry alt text; decorative artwork is marked accordingly.
• Audio narrations are paired with on-screen text — no audio-only content.
• Reduced-motion preferences are respected for non-essential animation.
• Page structure uses real h1–h3 headings, landmarks, and lists.

Known limitations

• Cuneiform glyphs are rendered as Unicode text; some assistive tech may announce them as unknown characters. The transliteration and English are always present alongside.
• The atlas pages include atmospheric imagery; we are working through alt text and color-contrast checks on every illustration.
